BACTILON 1 LTR SOLUTION
CHLOROHEXADINE 0.3% + CETRIMIDE 0.6%
BACTILON 1 LTR SOLUTION is a topical antiseptic solution of chlorhexidine gluconate 0.3% with cetrimide 0.6%. It is used for cleaning wounds, grazes, cuts and burns, for skin preparation before minor procedures, and for general antiseptic cleansing in clinical and domestic settings. It is for external use only.

Benefits
- Chlorhexidine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with a substantive effect that persists on the skin after application.
- Cetrimide is a cationic surfactant that lifts grease, dirt and debris from the wound surface, so the solution cleans as well as disinfects.
- The two components complement each other — one detergent, one antiseptic — making it suitable for the initial cleaning of contaminated wounds.
- Well tolerated on intact skin and around minor wounds at these concentrations.
- The large volume presentation suits clinics, dressing rooms and procedure areas where antiseptic is used routinely.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Mild transient stinging on application to broken skin
- Dryness of the treated skin with repeated use
- Local redness
- Staining of fabrics
Less common
- Contact dermatitis with itching and persistent redness
- Skin irritation with prolonged or occluded contact
- Sensitisation on repeated exposure
- Discolouration of the treated skin
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing after use
- Widespread rash or hives
- Severe burning, blistering or ulceration of the treated area
- Accidental contact with the eye causing persistent pain or visual disturbance
- Accidental swallowing of the solution

Precautions
- For external use only. Never swallow, and never inject or instil into body cavities.
- Avoid contact with the eyes, the middle ear and the meninges — chlorhexidine can cause serious injury to these tissues. Irrigate thoroughly with water if contact occurs.
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine or to quaternary ammonium compounds. Chlorhexidine anaphylaxis is rare but well documented.
- Do not use on large areas of severely broken skin, on deep or heavily contaminated wounds, or on extensive burns without medical supervision.
- Do not use on the brain, meninges or exposed nerve tissue during surgery.
- Keep away from the eyes and out of reach of children; store the container tightly closed.
- Not for use as a substitute for medical assessment of a wound that is deep, dirty, bleeding heavily, or showing signs of infection.
