DEXTROMETHORPHAN 15MG + PHENYLEPHRINE 5MG + CPM 2.5MG
BERYCOF-DX JUNIOR SYP 60ML is a paediatric-strength syrup of dextromethorphan 15 mg, phenylephrine 5 mg and chlorpheniramine maleate 2.5 mg. It is used for the symptomatic relief of dry, irritating cough with associated runny nose and nasal blockage in children, with the dose set by age and body weight by the prescriber.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Drowsiness and sedation
- Dry mouth and throat
- Nausea or reduced appetite
- Dizziness
Less common
- Paradoxical excitability, restlessness or irritability, which is more common in children than adults
- Palpitations or a raised heart rate
- Constipation
- Difficulty passing urine
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Severe drowsiness or difficulty rousing the child
- Fast, irregular or pounding heartbeat
- Confusion, hallucinations or unusual agitation
- Difficulty breathing or wheeze
- Persistent vomiting, or signs of dehydration

Precautions
- Dose strictly by age and weight, using the measure supplied. Never use a household spoon, and never give an adult preparation to a child.
- Not for use in children below the age stated on the label. Cough and cold combinations are not recommended in young children without paediatric advice.
- Only for dry, non-productive cough. Do not suppress a productive cough.
- Contraindicated in cardiac disease, uncontrolled hypertension and hyperthyroidism because of the phenylephrine.
- Do not give with, or within fourteen days of, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor or another serotonergic drug.
- Do not combine with any other cough or cold preparation — duplication of ingredients is the usual route to paediatric overdose.
- Causes drowsiness, and can paradoxically cause excitability in children.
- Reassess if cough persists beyond a week, or if there is fever, fast breathing, wheeze or difficulty feeding.
