CLOTRIMAZOLE DUSTING POWDER

BESTOBZ(DUSTING POWDER) is a topical clotrimazole dusting powder, an antifungal for superficial skin infections. It is used in tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and candidal intertrigo of the skin folds — the moist sites where fungal infection thrives — and as a preventive measure in patients prone to recurrence.

Benefits

  • Clotrimazole disrupts fungal cell membrane synthesis, and is active against dermatophytes and Candida species.
  • The powder base absorbs moisture, addressing the damp conditions in which skin-fold fungal infection persists.
  • Well suited to the groin, under the breasts, between the toes and other flexural sites where a cream would stay occluded and moist.
  • Can be dusted into socks and footwear to reduce reinfection in tinea pedis.
  • Useful as a maintenance measure in patients with repeated recurrence, once the active infection has been cleared.

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Mild burning or stinging on application
  • Local redness or itching
  • Dryness of the treated skin
  • Visible powder residue on skin and clothing
Less common
  • Contact dermatitis with persistent redness and itching
  • Peeling or blistering of the treated area
  • Worsening of the rash rather than improvement
  • Sensitisation on repeated use
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Spreading redness, warmth, pus or increasing pain, suggesting bacterial infection
  • Severe blistering or ulceration of the treated skin
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
  • No improvement after two weeks of correct use
  • Fever alongside a worsening skin infection

Precautions

  • For external use only. Avoid the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose, and do not inhale the powder.
  • Do not use on the scalp or nails — fungal infection at those sites needs oral treatment.
  • Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to clotrimazole or other imidazole antifungals.
  • Continue for one to two weeks after the rash clears; stopping the moment it looks better is the commonest cause of relapse.
  • Keep the area clean and dry, wear loose cotton clothing, and change socks daily — the powder cannot outwork persistent moisture.
  • Treat family members and footwear where reinfection keeps occurring.
  • Seek review if there is no improvement after two weeks, or if the rash is weeping, painful or spreading.
