AMOXY 250MG TAB
BESTOMOX-250DT TAB is a dispersible tablet of amoxicillin 250 mg, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic. The dispersible form is dissolved in water before administration, which suits children and any patient who cannot swallow a capsule, for respiratory, ear, nose and throat, urinary and skin infections.

Benefits
- Disperses in water to give a suspension, making it practical for children and for adults who cannot swallow solid dose forms.
- Bactericidal against the common community pathogens of the respiratory tract, ear and urinary tract.
- Dispersing the dose allows it to be divided, which supports weight-based paediatric dosing.
- Well absorbed orally and largely unaffected by food.
- A long-established first-line agent with a well-characterised paediatric safety record.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhoea or loose stools
- Abdominal discomfort
- Skin rash
Less common
- Oral or nappy-area thrush after the course
- Raised liver enzymes on testing
- Irritability or disturbed sleep
- Black or discoloured tongue
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, difficulty breathing, or collapse
- Widespread rash with blistering or peeling skin
- Severe, watery or bloody diarrhoea during or in the weeks after the course
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes, or dark urine
- Persistent vomiting, or signs of dehydration

Precautions
- Contraindicated in known penicillin allergy; a history of penicillin anaphylaxis is an absolute contraindication.
- Disperse fully in water and give the whole dose promptly; do not swallow the tablet whole in a child who cannot manage it.
- Dose by body weight in children, on the prescriber's instruction.
- Avoid in suspected infectious mononucleosis, where amoxicillin frequently causes a florid rash.
- Dose reduction is required in significant renal impairment.
- Complete the full prescribed course even once symptoms settle.
- Ineffective against viral infections; most childhood colds and sore throats do not need it.
- Use with caution where there is a cephalosporin allergy.
