PEPSIN 7.5MG + FUNGAL DIASTASE 12.5MG ( ENZYME )

BIOZYME SYP 200ML is a digestive enzyme syrup containing pepsin 7.5 mg and fungal diastase 12.5 mg. It is used for indigestion, bloating, fullness after meals, flatulence and poor appetite associated with impaired digestion, supplementing the body's own enzymes for protein and starch.

Benefits

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Nausea
  • Loose stools or diarrhoea
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Altered taste
Less common
  • Heartburn or epigastric burning
  • Constipation
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Mouth or throat irritation
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
  • Severe or persistent abdominal pain
  • Black or tarry stools, or vomiting of blood
  • Unexplained weight loss or persistent vomiting
  • Widespread rash or hives

Precautions

  • Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to pepsin, fungal enzymes or pork-derived products depending on the source of the pepsin.
  • Use with caution in active peptic ulcer disease and in acute pancreatitis or an acute flare of chronic pancreatitis.
  • Take with or immediately after meals — taken on an empty stomach the enzymes have no substrate and may irritate the mucosa.
  • This treats symptoms of impaired digestion, not their cause. Persistent indigestion needs a diagnosis.
  • Alarm features — weight loss, difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, anaemia — need urgent investigation, not enzymes.
  • Shake well before each dose and use the measure supplied.
  • Use in children, pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice.
