CEFPODOXIME 100MG SYP

CAREPOD 100 D.SYP+WFS +WFS is a dry syrup of cefpodoxime 100 mg, a third-generation oral cephalosporin, reconstituted before use. It is used for otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, skin infections and urinary tract infection caused by susceptible organisms.

01

Benefits

  • Broader Gram-positive cover than cefixime, including streptococci and methicillin-sensitive staphylococci, alongside good Gram-negative activity.
  • That combined spectrum makes it a useful single agent for otitis media, sinusitis and skin infection where both organism groups are possible.
  • Twice-daily dosing is manageable for children and their carers.
  • The liquid form allows accurate weight-based dosing.
  • A practical oral step-down after initial injectable cephalosporin therapy.

Precautions

  • Contraindicated in known cephalosporin allergy; use with caution in penicillin allergy and avoid entirely after penicillin anaphylaxis.
  • Cefpodoxime absorption requires gastric acid — give with food, and avoid antacids and proton pump inhibitors around the dose or the antibiotic will underperform.
  • Reconstitute exactly to the mark, shake before every dose, and use the measure supplied.
  • Store as directed after reconstitution and discard after the stated period.
  • Dose by body weight in children, on the prescriber's instruction.
  • Dose reduction is required in significant renal impairment.
  • Complete the full prescribed course; never keep a part-used bottle for a future illness.
