DEXTROMETHORPHAN 10MG + CPM 2MG + PHENYLEPHRINE 5MG SOFT SG

CROSS-Q SG CAP is a soft gelatin capsule combining dextromethorphan 10 mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg and phenylephrine 5 mg. It is used for the symptomatic relief of dry, irritating cough with associated runny and blocked nose, in a capsule form that avoids the taste of a syrup.

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Drowsiness and sedation
  • Dry mouth, nose and throat
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
Less common
  • Restlessness or difficulty sleeping
  • Palpitations or a rise in blood pressure
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty passing urine or constipation
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Severe drowsiness or difficulty rousing
  • Chest pain, or a markedly irregular or rapid heartbeat
  • Confusion, hallucinations or agitation
  • Difficulty breathing or wheeze
  • Inability to pass urine

Precautions

  • Only for dry, non-productive cough.
  • Contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, significant arrhythmia and hyperthyroidism.
  • Contraindicated in narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention and significant prostatic enlargement.
  • Do not give with, or within fourteen days of, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor or another serotonergic drug.
  • Causes drowsiness. Warn before driving, and avoid alcohol.
  • Swallow whole; do not bite or open the capsule.
  • Reassess if cough persists beyond a week or with fever or breathlessness.
  • Not for children without paediatric advice.
