CROSS-Q TAB S/STP is a multi-ingredient tablet combining bromhexine 8 mg, guaiphenesin 100 mg, phenylephrine 10 mg, chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg and paracetamol 450 mg. It is used for productive cough with thick sputum accompanied by fever, body ache, runny nose and nasal blockage.

Benefits

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Drowsiness and sedation
  • Dry mouth, nose and throat
  • Nausea or stomach upset
  • Dizziness
Less common
  • Restlessness or difficulty sleeping
  • Palpitations or a rise in blood pressure
  • Blurred vision
  • Difficulty passing urine
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Chest pain, or a markedly irregular or rapid heartbeat
  • Severe drowsiness or confusion
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
  • Inability to pass urine

Precautions

  • Contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, significant arrhythmia and hyperthyroidism because of the phenylephrine.
  • Contraindicated in narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention and significant prostatic enlargement.
  • Do not give with, or within fourteen days of, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
  • Check total daily paracetamol intake across all products — at 450 mg per tablet the ceiling is reached quickly.
  • Do not combine with a cough suppressant; suppressing and expectorating work against each other.
  • Causes drowsiness. Warn before driving, and avoid alcohol.
  • Use with caution in active peptic ulcer disease because of the bromhexine, and maintain good fluid intake.
  • For short-term use only; reassess if symptoms persist beyond five days.
