IRFOL-Z CAP

ELEMENTAL IRON IP 50MG + ZINK IP 61.8M

IRFOL-Z CAP is a capsule containing elemental iron 50 mg with zinc 61.8 mg. It is used for iron deficiency anaemia where zinc deficiency is also likely — in poor or restricted diets, in adolescence, in pregnancy, and during convalescence.

01

Benefits

  • Provides elemental iron for the correction of iron deficiency anaemia.
  • Zinc deficiency commonly coexists with iron deficiency in the same dietary circumstances, and correcting only one leaves the other.
  • Zinc supports normal immune function, wound healing, growth and taste perception, all impaired in deficiency.
  • Zinc supplementation reduces the duration and severity of childhood diarrhoea, a common accompaniment of nutritional deficiency.
  • One capsule covers both deficiencies, improving adherence over separate preparations.

Stop and get medical help if any of these occur

  • Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting

03

Precautions

  • Keep strictly out of reach of children. Iron overdose is a leading cause of fatal childhood poisoning.
  • Contraindicated in haemochromatosis, iron overload, and anaemias not due to iron deficiency.
  • Iron and zinc compete for absorption; taking them together reduces the uptake of each somewhat, which the higher doses are intended to offset.
  • Prolonged high-dose zinc causes copper deficiency — do not continue indefinitely without review.
  • Take on an empty stomach for best absorption; with food if nausea is limiting.
  • Separate from tea, coffee, milk, calcium and antacids by at least two hours.
  • Separate from tetracycline and fluoroquinolone antibiotics and from thyroid hormone by at least two hours.
  • Establish the cause of anaemia rather than treating empirically, and increase fluid and fibre to offset constipation.
