KETOCONAZOLE + CETRIMIDE

KETOROZ C SOAP 75GM is a medicated cleansing bar containing ketoconazole with cetrimide. It combines an antifungal with an antiseptic detergent, for superficial fungal skin infections complicated by bacterial contamination, and for the moist skin folds where both organisms thrive.

Benefits

  • Ketoconazole is active against dermatophytes, Candida and Malassezia.
  • Cetrimide is a cationic surfactant with antibacterial action that also lifts grease and debris from the skin surface.
  • The combination suits macerated, secondarily infected skin-fold lesions where fungal and bacterial organisms coexist.
  • A wash-off bar covers large areas practically and suits daily use.
  • Useful as maintenance in patients prone to recurrent intertrigo.

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Dryness or tightness of the treated skin
  • Mild burning or stinging on application
  • Local redness
  • Itching
Less common
  • Contact dermatitis with persistent redness
  • Peeling of the treated skin
  • Sensitisation on repeated use
  • Worsening of the rash rather than improvement
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Spreading redness, warmth, pus or increasing pain
  • Severe blistering or ulceration of the treated skin
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
  • No improvement after two to three weeks of correct use
  • Fever alongside a worsening skin infection

Precautions

  • For external use only. Avoid the eyes, mouth and inside of the nose.
  • Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to ketoconazole, other azole antifungals, or quaternary ammonium compounds.
  • An adjunct rather than definitive treatment; established infection usually also needs a leave-on preparation.
  • Leave the lather on the affected area for a minute or two before rinsing.
  • Do not use on badly broken or ulcerated skin without advice.
  • Keep the area clean and dry — the moisture that causes intertrigo must be addressed alongside.
  • Seek review if there is no improvement after two to three weeks.
