LIGNOROS GEL 30GM
LIDOCAINE HYD.CHL 2% + METHYLPARABEN 0.2% + PROPYLPARABEEN 0.05%
LIGNOROS GEL 30GM is a topical gel of lidocaine hydrochloride 2%, a local anaesthetic. It is used for surface anaesthesia and the relief of pain and itching — before minor procedures and catheterisation, and for painful conditions of the skin and accessible mucous membranes.

Benefits
- Lidocaine blocks sodium channels in sensory nerve endings, producing rapid surface numbness within minutes.
- Widely used as a lubricant and anaesthetic for urethral catheterisation, endoscopy and other instrumentation.
- Relieves the pain of minor burns, abrasions, anal fissure and haemorrhoids.
- The gel base holds the anaesthetic in contact with the surface longer than a solution.
- Provides temporary relief before a procedure without the need for injected anaesthetic.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Transient burning or stinging on application
- Local redness
- Numbness extending beyond the intended area
- Altered sensation at the site
Less common
- Contact dermatitis with persistent redness and itching
- Swelling of the treated area
- Prolonged numbness
- Pale or blotchy appearance of the treated skin
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Dizziness, ringing in the ears, metallic taste, numbness of the tongue or lips, or confusion — early signs of systemic lidocaine toxicity
- Seizures
- Slow, fast or irregular heartbeat
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
- Bluish-grey discolouration of the lips or skin

Precautions
- Do not apply to large areas, to broken or inflamed skin, or under occlusive dressing without medical advice — systemic absorption from these rises sharply and can cause serious toxicity.
- Systemic lidocaine toxicity is the main hazard and can be fatal. Observe the maximum quantity advised, and be alert to early neurological symptoms.
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or other amide local anaesthetics.
- Use with particular caution in children and the elderly, who are more susceptible to toxicity from a given amount.
- Numbness abolishes protective sensation. Warn the patient not to eat, drink hot liquids or handle hot objects until it wears off, to avoid burns and biting injury.
- Avoid the eyes. Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment, heart block and severe heart failure.
- This relieves pain temporarily and treats nothing — it must not be used to mask a condition needing diagnosis.
- Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice.
