FEXOFENADINE HCL 120MG + MONTELUKAST 10MG
MONTEROS FX TAB is a tablet combining fexofenadine hydrochloride 120 mg with montelukast 10 mg. It is used for allergic rhinitis with associated asthma or persistent symptoms, pairing a non-sedating antihistamine with a leukotriene receptor antagonist.

Benefits
- Fexofenadine blocks histamine, relieving sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes without sedation.
- Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, a separate inflammatory pathway that antihistamines do not touch.
- Together they cover more of the allergic inflammatory cascade than either alone, useful where an antihistamine has proved insufficient.
- Montelukast also treats the asthma that frequently coexists with allergic rhinitis, addressing both with one tablet.
- Particularly effective for nasal blockage, which responds poorly to antihistamines alone.
- Once-daily dosing, and fexofenadine is the least sedating of the common antihistamines.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Drowsiness in a small number of patients
- Nausea
Less common
- Vivid dreams or disturbed sleep
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Raised liver enzymes
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Agitation, aggression, depression, anxiety, or thoughts of self-harm — montelukast can cause serious neuropsychiatric reactions
- Hallucinations, or marked changes in behaviour or sleep
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
- Numbness or tingling with rash and worsening breathlessness
- Yellowing of the skin or eyes

Precautions
- Montelukast carries a warning for serious neuropsychiatric events — agitation, depression, sleep disturbance, and suicidal thoughts and behaviour. Counsel every patient and their family to watch for and report mood or behaviour change, and stop the drug if it occurs.
- Montelukast is not a rescue treatment. It does not relieve an acute asthma attack, and patients must keep their reliever inhaler available.
- Do not reduce or stop inhaled corticosteroid therapy on starting montelukast without medical advice.
- Take fexofenadine with water only — fruit juices substantially reduce its absorption.
- Separate from aluminium- or magnesium-containing antacids by at least two hours.
- Dose reduction is required in significant renal impairment; stop several days before allergy skin testing.
- Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice.
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to either component.
