MULTIVIT DROPS 15ML is an oral drops preparation of multivitamins with minerals, for infants and young children. It is used to supplement daily nutritional intake where the diet is inadequate, in poor appetite, and during convalescence, with the dose set by the paediatrician.

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Nausea or posseting after a dose
  • Loose stools
  • Reduced appetite
  • Bright yellow discolouration of the urine from riboflavin
Less common
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Irritability
  • Skin rash
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Persistent vomiting, or refusal to feed
  • Unusual drowsiness or irritability
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
  • Accidental administration of a large amount
  • Poor weight gain despite adequate feeding

Precautions

  • Dose strictly by the paediatrician's instruction using the dropper supplied. Infant vitamin overdose is a real hazard, particularly with fat-soluble vitamins A and D.
  • Do not give alongside another vitamin-containing supplement or fortified formula without checking the total daily intake.
  • Keep out of reach of children and store as directed, away from light.
  • A supplement, not a substitute for adequate feeding or for assessing a child who is not growing.
  • Give with a feed to reduce posseting and improve absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins.
  • Yellow urine is expected and harmless.
  • Shake well before each dose, keep tightly closed, and use within the period stated after opening.
