MULTIVITAMIN INJ
MVI (MULTIPLEX INJ) 10ML is a 10 ml multivitamin injection given intramuscularly or by intravenous infusion. It is used where vitamin deficiency needs rapid correction or the oral route is unavailable — severe malabsorption, prolonged parenteral nutrition, chronic alcohol use and severe malnutrition.

Benefits

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Pain or redness at the injection site
- Flushing or warmth of the skin
- Nausea
- Headache
Less common
- Dizziness or transient fall in blood pressure
- Itching or rash
- Altered taste
- Yellow discolouration of the urine
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, wheeze, difficulty breathing or collapse
- Widespread rash or hives
- Severe flushing with dizziness or fainting
- Chest tightness during the infusion
- Severe pain or swelling at the injection site

Precautions
- For administration by a qualified healthcare professional. Anaphylaxis, though rare, has been reported with parenteral vitamin preparations — resuscitation facilities must be available.
- Give intravenous doses slowly by dilution and infusion rather than as a rapid bolus.
- In suspected Wernicke's encephalopathy, thiamine must be given before any glucose-containing infusion — giving glucose first can precipitate the condition.
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to any component or to benzyl alcohol where present as a preservative.
- Protect from light during infusion; several vitamins degrade rapidly on light exposure.
- Prolonged high-dose pyridoxine can cause peripheral neuropathy.
- Check compatibility before adding to any infusion fluid or mixing with other additives.
- Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only where clearly indicated.
