NIMESULIDE 100MG + PHENYLEPHRINE 10MG + CETRIZINE 5MG + CAFFAINE 30MG

NIMOROSS COLD&FLU is a tablet combining nimesulide 100 mg, phenylephrine 10 mg, cetirizine 5 mg and caffeine 30 mg. It is used for the symptomatic relief of the fever, aches, runny nose and nasal blockage of colds and influenza, for short-term use only.

Benefits

  • Nimesulide provides rapid relief of the fever, headache and body ache of influenza.
  • Cetirizine dries the runny nose and settles sneezing and watery eyes.
  • Phenylephrine relieves nasal blockage, improving breathing and sleep.
  • Caffeine offsets some of the fatigue of the illness and modestly enhances analgesia.
  • One tablet replaces several separate preparations over a short course.

Side effects

Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.

Common
  • Drowsiness or, conversely, restlessness and difficulty sleeping
  • Dry mouth, nose and throat
  • Nausea or epigastric discomfort
  • Palpitations or a raised heart rate
Less common
  • Rise in blood pressure
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Raised liver enzymes
  • Skin rash or itching
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or persistent nausea and loss of appetite
  • Chest pain, or a markedly irregular or rapid heartbeat
  • Black or tarry stools
  • Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
  • Inability to pass urine

Precautions

  • Nimesulide carries a recognised risk of severe liver injury. Restricted to short courses, and a cold preparation should not be taken beyond a few days regardless.
  • Contraindicated in children under twelve years.
  • Contraindicated in any hepatic impairment, and in alcohol or drug dependence.
  • Contraindicated in uncontrolled hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, significant arrhythmia and hyperthyroidism because of the phenylephrine.
  • Contraindicated in narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention and significant prostatic enlargement.
  • Do not give with, or within fourteen days of, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
  • Contraindicated in active peptic ulcer disease, severe renal impairment and NSAID hypersensitivity, and in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Avoid alcohol entirely; reassess if symptoms persist beyond five days or fever beyond three.
