OROBEST(MOUTH ULCER GEL)10GM is an oral gel combining choline salicylate with lignocaine hydrochloride. It is applied directly to painful lesions in the mouth — aphthous ulcers, denture sores, teething discomfort and minor oral trauma — providing local anti-inflammatory and anaesthetic relief.

Benefits
- Lignocaine numbs the ulcer surface within a minute or two, giving immediate relief of pain.
- Choline salicylate has a local anti-inflammatory and mild analgesic action on the ulcerated mucosa.
- The gel adheres to the moist mucosal surface, holding both agents in contact with the lesion.
- Allows eating and drinking to resume where mouth pain has been preventing it.
- Useful for denture-related sores while the denture is being adjusted.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Transient stinging or burning on application
- Numbness of the tongue, lips and surrounding mouth
- Altered taste
- Increased salivation
Less common
- Local irritation with repeated use
- Contact sensitivity
- Nausea if swallowed in quantity
- Whitening of the mucosa at the site
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Difficulty swallowing, or choking after application
- Dizziness, ringing in the ears, metallic taste or numbness beyond the mouth — signs of systemic lignocaine absorption
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
- An ulcer that has not healed after three weeks
- Fever with widespread mouth ulceration

Precautions
- Not for use in infants and young children. Choline salicylate is a salicylate, carrying a theoretical Reye's syndrome risk, and numbing gels have caused choking and serious harm in babies — do not use for teething without paediatric advice.
- Numbness impairs the gag reflex. Do not eat or drink hot liquids for at least an hour after application, to avoid burns, biting injury and aspiration.
- Apply sparingly to the lesion only, no more often than directed — excessive or frequent use risks systemic absorption of both components.
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to salicylates or amide local anaesthetics, and in aspirin-sensitive asthma.
- Do not use alongside other salicylate-containing medicines without advice.
- A mouth ulcer that has not healed in three weeks needs examination to exclude malignancy — this gel will mask it.
- Recurrent severe ulceration needs a diagnosis; deficiency states, coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel disease are common causes.
- Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only on medical advice.
