SILDENAFIL CITRATE 100MG
PLAY BACK-100 TAB B\P is a tablet of sildenafil citrate 100 mg, a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor. It is a prescription-only medicine for erectile dysfunction, taken before sexual activity, and works by increasing blood flow to the penis in response to sexual stimulation.

Benefits
- Inhibits phosphodiesterase-5, allowing the nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation of normal erectile response to occur and persist.
- Effective in erectile dysfunction of most causes, including diabetic and post-prostatectomy erectile dysfunction.
- Onset within thirty to sixty minutes, with an effective window of around four hours.
- Requires sexual stimulation to work, so it restores normal response rather than producing an erection independently.
- Long-established with an extensive safety record when prescribed appropriately.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Headache
- Facial flushing
- Indigestion or reflux
- Nasal congestion
Less common
- Dizziness
- Blue tinge to vision or increased light sensitivity
- Blurred vision
- Back or muscle pain
- Palpitations
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- An erection lasting more than four hours — priapism is a urological emergency and delay causes permanent damage
- Chest pain during or after sexual activity — do not take nitrates for it
- Sudden loss or reduction of vision in one or both eyes
- Sudden hearing loss or ringing in the ears
- Fainting, or severe dizziness
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing

Precautions
- Absolutely contraindicated with nitrates in any form — including glyceryl trinitrate spray or tablets, isosorbide preparations, and recreational amyl nitrite ('poppers'). The combination causes a catastrophic fall in blood pressure and can be fatal.
- Contraindicated with riociguat and other guanylate cyclase stimulators.
- Contraindicated in patients in whom sexual activity is inadvisable because of cardiovascular status, in severe hepatic impairment, in recent stroke or myocardial infarction, and in hypotension.
- Erectile dysfunction is often the first sign of cardiovascular disease or diabetes. This should be prescribed after assessment, not bought without one.
- Use with caution alongside alpha-blockers, which are commonly prescribed for prostatic enlargement — the combination can cause symptomatic hypotension. Separate dosing and start at a low dose.
- Contraindicated in a history of non-arteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy; stop and seek urgent care for any sudden visual loss.
- Dose reduction is required in significant hepatic or renal impairment, in the elderly, and alongside CYP3A4 inhibitors including ketoconazole, erythromycin and ritonavir.
- A heavy or fatty meal delays absorption. Alcohol reduces efficacy and adds to hypotension. Not for use by women or children.
