CEFPODOXIME 50MG SYP
RITEPOD 50 D.SYP+ WFS is a dry syrup of cefpodoxime 50 mg, a third-generation oral cephalosporin, reconstituted before use. It is a paediatric preparation for otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis, pneumonia and skin infections, dosed by body weight.
01
Benefits
- Broader Gram-positive cover than cefixime, useful in childhood ear, throat and skin infection.
- Twice-daily dosing is manageable for children and their carers.
- The liquid form allows accurate weight-based dosing.
- The dry syrup format keeps the antibiotic stable until reconstitution.
- A practical oral step-down after initial injectable therapy.

Precautions
- Contraindicated in known cephalosporin allergy; use with caution in penicillin allergy and avoid after penicillin anaphylaxis.
- Give with food. Cefpodoxime absorption requires gastric acid, and avoiding antacids around the dose matters.
- Reconstitute exactly to the mark, shake well before every dose, and use the measure supplied.
- Store as directed after reconstitution and discard after the stated period.
- Dose strictly by body weight on the prescriber's instruction.
- Dose reduction is required in significant renal impairment.
- Complete the full prescribed course; never keep a part-used bottle for a future illness.
