VITAHY CAPS is a soft gelatin capsule combining multivitamins, minerals and ginseng. It is used as a nutritional supplement in fatigue, poor dietary intake, convalescence and periods of increased physical or mental demand, with ginseng added as a traditional adaptogen.

Side effects
Not everyone gets these. Most are mild and settle as the course finishes.
Common
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Bright yellow discolouration of the urine from riboflavin
- Loose stools or constipation
- Altered taste
Less common
- Difficulty sleeping or restlessness from the ginseng
- Headache
- Palpitations
- Skin rash or itching
Stop and get medical help if any of these occur
- Swelling of the face, lips or tongue, or difficulty breathing
- Marked rise in blood pressure, or palpitations with chest discomfort
- Widespread rash or hives
- Symptoms of hypoglycaemia in a patient on diabetes medication
- Persistent vomiting or severe abdominal pain

Precautions
- Ginseng can lower blood glucose — patients on insulin or oral hypoglycaemics need monitoring.
- Ginseng may increase bleeding risk and interacts with warfarin; avoid alongside anticoagulants without advice, and stop before planned surgery.
- Ginseng can raise blood pressure and cause insomnia — avoid in uncontrolled hypertension, and take in the morning.
- Do not exceed the stated dose or take alongside another multivitamin.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Take after food, and separate from tetracycline or fluoroquinolone antibiotics and thyroid hormone by at least two hours.
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding without medical advice; ginseng is not recommended in pregnancy.
